Axum Art Mural

Axum is a medium sized town located in Tigray, the northern province of Ethiopia. It is an ancient Orthodox Christian community and strict codes of conduct still exist today. It is estimated that 7% of the population in this type of region is HIV positive.

The mural emphasized the 1 million AIDS orphans with the use of a design inspired from the Orthodox Christian frescos. The target audience was rural villagers who were mostly illiterate. The mural was installed in the main market place where both men and women of all ages congregated daily.
