Andrés Rangel

b.1991

Andrés E. Rangel (b. 1991) is a Costa Rican/Mexican lens & time-based artist and figurative model based in NYC. His work exalts politicized bodies, diverse beauty, and ornamented bareness. He holds an MFA in Photography from Universidad LCI Veritas (2016), with a thesis titled Por No: Problematization of Sexual Miscommunication, exploring Post-Pornography, Post-Feminism, Post-Internet, Sexosophy, and Neo-Camp.

In the 2010s, his bold, Warholian/Almodóvarian use of color fused Kitsch and Camp to frame individuality, sexuality, and nudity as political acts. A contributor to Visual AIDS, Rangel now explores how ADHD, PTSD, HIV, and migration shape his art, identity, and belonging. His practice centers on intimacy, censorship, self-sabotage, and the ongoing pursuit of freedom.
