Studied his BA in Leeds Beckett and now an MA student at LJMU, both in Fine Art, Joseph's work delves into the idea of site-specific temporal installation undergoing research into HIV and the issues around a lacking of educated subject matter for this widespread issue in contemporary LGBT culture. Providing spaces in which the audience becomes a participator to negate mis-understood concepts which circulated in the 80s. Inheriting DIY techniques the process of making is informed through a sense of playfulness and spontaneity allows his thinking through making to manifest. Producing filmic qualities through a experiential, navigational space where the viewer can participate. Influences range from Jason Rhodes too Jessica Stockholder. Past exhibitions include 'Work-in-Progress' and 'Mother of Invention' Leeds, 'the Rag Factory' London and 'the Beauty of..' St-Helens.
My intention is to negate traditional methods of painting through large-scale painterly informed spaces. I have an elemental approach to my practice, materiality, colour and surface apply across mediums setting up an equation to inform making when in a given site. I’m Interrogating paintings discourse through a range of mediums, which adopt site, space, architecture and domestic environment to create an experiential navigation upon viewing my work. My practice relies on a strong sense of craftsmanship, which I believe is key to producing work in an expanded field yet still relatable to a painterly informed practice. Derived through my experiences of making the picture plane becomes destabilised, through the production of a somewhat hap-hazard sense of composition and sculptural forms using a visceral choice of found materials too construction matter.

My practice deals with site. The amalgamation of painting, sculpture, drawing, installation and found matter allows myself to adapt within reason to a given space. Influenced by a painterly background I like to explore the expanded field and vary mediums, which are used when making through thinking and thinking through making.
